Of course! Apart from a few extreme exceptions (i.e. when you or someone else is in danger), nothing you say will ever be disclosed to anyone else. This is your safe space, after all, so you should feel like you can speak in absolute confidence knowing that what you say won’t leave the counselling room.
You will be invited into one of my cosy treatment rooms in Haggerston or Upminster, or join a meeting online, with me giving you the floor to voice your problems in any way that you see fit. To start with, we will look at your life as a whole, what matters most to you, and understand what you might need from therapy. Building a map of where your difficulties stem from and understanding what maintains it, and learning how best to work with them, is what you can mainly expect from our first full session.
Most of the time, I will see clients on a weekly basis, as this allows for a sense of continuity and ensures we develop a close therapeutic relationship. However, you might feel like a session every fortnight is all you need, and that’s fine as well. We will discuss this together to come to the right decision. I usually offer fortnightly when some work already been done to maintain the progress.
There are so many reasons why people may contact me for therapy, such as feeling overwhelmed by life, always anxious, unsettled, depressed, or struggling with interpersonal difficulties. It could be that you have a particular problem you are experiencing, like a bereavement, or maybe you feel like there’s something not quite right but can’t pinpoint what it is. No matter how big or small your issue may be, therapy is a chance to work through it in your own way.
Everyone needs a form of support that feels right and makes sense to them. That is why I am always careful to understand how you think about yourself, what precise issues you are struggling with, before deciding whether to use an approach that focuses on your thoughts in the here and now, or one that invites us to delve into your past. I practice a number of modalities and have worked with so many clients in the past, so I am adept at knowing what kind of help you might need. If I don’t personally provide the therapeutic intervention you require, I can potentially make a referral.
Payment can be made by cash, bank transfer, or cheque. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, I require at least 48 hours’ notice, otherwise you will have to pay for the session in full.
Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, or some other issue that you need help with? If so, I am here to provide friendly, compassionate, completely confidential cognitive behavioural therapy and psychodynamic counselling in Haggerston, Upminster, and online. You can give me a call at any time to arrange your first session, or simply fill out the contact form and I’ll get back to you.
